Mid July - European press trip. Face to face interviews with long lead publications. Two possible festival shows (solo) in Germany and Spain.

Mid September - European album release press, radio and TV trip. Probable solo shows in select major cities.

October and November - The Small Ensemble come to Europe.

Great news! Will you be doing any live in-studio performances for the "radio and TV" portion of the trip? If so, I'll be sure to try to find them on the satilite or the internet. Thanks for keeping us up to date!
By pennypriddy [us] Date 2010-05-26 22:50
well that all sounds good. i guess it's too early to ask about any US dates....but i'll be waiting.

Far out: there goes my speculative news of a half year spent touring the Australasian region as I had planned....great news and looking forward to finding and following the news as it happens. Those lucky enough to follow the tour fill me in and I'll live vicariously through your experiences

Top news. Super idea!

US and Australia/NZ 2011, I expect. I know Australia is penciled for March/April.
By sigggy (Admin) [ca] Date 2010-05-27 20:06
That is so perfect. I might even hit NZ to see some shows. From pencil to ink hopefully soon. Thanks for the update.

I suspect you (Lloyd) may already know this but Greg Norman's first course design in South Australia (Port Hughes) is expected to open April 2011...

By lloyd (Lloyd Cole) [us] Date 2010-06-02 03:19
Did not know, but GN has recently jettisoned (sp?) his best designer - Harrison, so i doubt I'd go out of my way to see a new GN course, especially given all the great courses in SA already.... But thanks for the heads up!

I'm going to be in NYC 6-11 July. Any chance of a sneaky warm-up gig down in the big apple? I should be so lucky. Looking forward to seeing you in Europe in the autumn. And of course for the album.
By lloyd (Lloyd Cole) [us] Date 2010-06-05 02:23
No NYC show for a while, hopefully something before the year's end.
By sigggy (Admin) [ca] Date 2010-06-05 03:25
NYC would be great-I guess the likelihood of Lloyd playing Fiji when I'm there is also remote.

For those looking for addresses for the venues announced (for personal info, or for posting on other web pages) here they are. They are in reverse order (sorry, that's how they appear on the MySpace admin page and I don't have the time to change this at the moment).  I'll post any other info when I come across it - most of the venues have yet to include the shows in their listings at present (14/07/10).  Thought it might help with the Facebook pages at least.  Best, Paul.

Here are the UK and Ireland dates and a new blurb about the tour.

What's all that commotion? It's Lloyd Cole and his small ensemble on tour in autumn 2010
Lloyd Cole

Although Lloyd Cole never quite crossed over to mega-stardom during his days in the spotlight, the 80s would have been a lesser place without his perfectly-honed guitar-driven song-writing craftsmanship. Not that Cole sank without trace after the successes of "Perfect Skin", "Rattlesnakes", "Mainstream" and "Lost Weekend" - he merely reinvented himself with strings and widescreen-production, plus a bit of control over his own fate.

2010 sees the return of Lloyd Cole with his band Small Ensemble, and a fresh new album due for release later in the year. After spending the best part of a decade in exile, he makes a return with the acoustic backing band for a series of gigs in support of new album "Broken Record". The 11 new songs have been recorded with a full band including Fred Maher on drums (ex-Material, Scritti Politti and Lou Reed) and Dave Derby (previous Cole collaborator) and will see the light of day in September.

The new tour is a predominantly acoustic affair with each night split into two-halves, presumbably one half new songs, the second Cole classics. The tour begins on 21st October in Cork and continues to Limerick (22nd), Sligo (23rd) and Dublin (24th) before heading to the UK and Glasgow (26th), Stockton (27th), Manchester (28th), Exeter (31st), Brighton (1st Nov), Bristol (2nd) and finally London's Union Chapel (3rd). Tickets are available for £20 (for most venues).

This isn't really the tour poster....

When booking tickets for the Glasgow show, the online facility allowed me to choose my own seats.  As a result, I could see exactly how many were sold already/remained to be sold.

If you intend on going to the Glasgow show in October, I'd advise you buy your tickets soon: two thirds of the tickets have been sold already!

This is all the more impressive as the show is over two months away; there has been little promotion so far; the single and the new album have yet to be released; single and album publicity have still to kick in ... and, of course, my YI home made posters and flyers have yet to be printed!

Wonder how the sales are going elsewhere and if it's as easy to check as it is at the Old Fruitmarket site?

If Glasgow is anything to go by, then the tour looks like it's going to be a success.
By lloyd (Lloyd Cole) [us] Date 2010-08-20 20:03
These online booking things can flatter/mislead the artist
I found this out in Chicago earlier this year, where we did eventually sell out, but thought we had done so the week before
The venue will block out certain groups of tickets to sell a the box office, or other outlets like record shops, these show as sold even if they are not
By sludger [gb] Date 2010-08-21 00:21
Then the posters and flyers and the scabby old printer are at the ready once more, lol.
By sludger [gb] Date 2010-08-29 12:54
... seems I've been beaten to it by the promoters - definately not a complaint, as it shows they are promoting the Glasgow show with vigour.

It won't mean much to those not familiar with the geography of Glasgow, but was pleasantly surprised when my wife returned from a lazy lunch with her mother in Tibo, a cafe/bar/restaurant on Duke Street, Dennistoun (where I stay!) in Glasgow's East End, to inform me that a poster advertising the show held a prominant position inside the doorway.

For the ABC show last time, Regular Music (the promoters) placed a poster in The Duke bar - a local bar on, not surprisingly, Duke Street again.

Duke Street and the East End of Glasgow are not the obvious places that spring to mind when thinking of promoting a Lloyd Cole show - I headed to the West End, known for its University and student connections, boho life, etc, when distributing my posters/flyers around the "coffee shops and bars".

As such, it would appear that the promoters are covering all bases again and in good time before the show. (They also do so in glosssssssy and expensive A3 sized posters, something my dinky laser printer cannae manage, unfortunately, though it does its best!).
