Ernie Ball Guitar Strings

I've been using these strings since a guitar roadie got me a deal with them in the nineties. I use Slinky Electric (11,14,20w,30,40,50) and Slinky Acoustic (12 - 54). They sound good to me, I don't use anything different in the studio. Sometimes I'll string a guitar with heavy strings for a really bold sound, sometimes light strings if a tuning needs them. At home or in the studio I change strings only when the guitar starts to sound bad. On tour, every 2 or 3 shows depending upon how sweaty the last show was. This year at Joe's Pub was the sweatiest ever in 20 years, the strings were dead after show number one on the second night and there was no time to change them between sets. That was a first.

Title: Strings

Hi Lloyd

Have you tried the nanoweb coated strings by Elixir? I don't play any sweaty gigs, but I do know that Elixir strings sound great for ages, especially on my Faith Venus II. Incidentally I noticed your posting about Guild guitars. Faith are well worth looking at too (although you've probably done that).

I missed your last round of UK gigs (saw you at The Sage last year) and look forward to the next time.

Title: Coated strings

I now use the Coated Slinky acoustic strings for live shows as they sound a tiny bit mellower and last longer. In the studio I will use both depending upon what we're going for. I did try the Elixir strings but they felt too slippy, almost greasy feeling, for me.
