Awaiting "Standards" with great anticipation. Love the song/video for "Period Piece" which suggest that something special is in the offing.

Recall reading that you were looking for suggestions for N.A. distribution and wonder if you've considered approaching Outside Music (http://outside-music.com/distribution/). They have pretty good national reach and work with a varied roster of independent artists that skews towards what could fairly be called "roots" music. Not the field you're working at the moment, but my sense is that they might still be a good fit for "Standards".

The songwriter's blues: The secrets to writing hits - and how to stay happy doing so

Should a song be dashed off or agonised over? Does it matter if your hit single has no ‘message’? And what is the difference between art and kitsch? One veteran reports on his 30-year battle with the muse. more >
Posted by: sigggy

Latest Comment: Top Tips!

As a teenager I remember being a bit sceptical of aspects of the Cole aesthetic ‘why’s this bloke singing about necking bourbon in a motel 6? – he’ a 20 something from Derbyshire’ but it was a case of naively equating artistic honesty with personal experience. Back then I would probably have agreed with Lennon’s dismissal of McCartney’s songs as ‘stories about boring people doing boring things’.

Eventually you see that all art is artifice, Truthfulness (whatever that is) can often end up as self-indulgent twaddle but even the most contrived plastic pop can be touching or energising if there’s an element of human soul in there that you can relate to.

Having tried my hand at song writing myself recently I know that finding your voice can be incredibly difficult. If I consciously try and write something ‘with feeling’ it ends up as some toe-curling, emotion-by-numbers, Coldplayesque wastepaper bin fodder. I’ll then write a nice self-conscious, post-modern smart arse lyric about how hard it is to write a love song – hey maybe that’s my true voice anyway.

P.S. Forest fire owns Walls come tumbling down…
