I'm off to Europe to start Broken Record promo on Thursday but I've left the boys with plenty to work on while I'm away! We added another four (3 1/2 really) songs today. 41 total. We figure our set will be 24 - 27 songs per night. We expect to play two sets most nights, like my solo show. But our arrangements are a little longer and more intricate (duh). So we need 45 or so to be able to switch things around. Today learned the Time Hardin medley I played a few years ago - The Lady Came From Baltimore into Reason to Believe and it sounds just lovely! Not to spoil potential surprises but I've decided, for now, to go with The Love Story tour idea of all covers by the same writer. Then we were onto my list of MUST DO songs we had yet to address. Music In A Foreign Language is a lot of work because I want it (for a change) to sound fairly close to the recorded version. So M and M are looking at the various electric piano lines and working them into their parts. It will take a fair bit more work but I'm pleased with the immediate vibe. Then I'm Gone and that was just self explanatory. Lots of pulsing low notes and a pretty intense feel. I'm very happy. How I'm expected to play these songs solo again I don't know.

Love your music I have never written to a performer before but you deserve some applause I have loved your music since you were Lloyd Cole and the Commotions and I have all your solo albums I have to say you are at the top of my list of performers and that has not changed in over 20 years just love to listen to the music. Emily will tweak the album today, based upon my email sent last night. Good news - it is almost perfect. Only three songs need minor adjustment and a few gaps between songs need lengthening. My usual final stage panic was much less pronounced this time around. Maybe I'm growing up? I will listen to the edited master as soon as it is uploaded. More asap.

Well, I finished it. On the bus, then in the studio. I think it's good. Certainly it sounds fine the day after (now). There are no definitive dos and donts for writers. If there were, we'd all know at least how to try to do it... I have always liked Robert Graves' "The waste paper basket is my best friend", though.

We will play all the songs in on tour, over a period of maybe a year. By which time we should have 45 songs or so to choose from. We will then go in to the studio for 5 days or so, with a producer, choose the best 25 or so, and do exactly what we did at Slaughterhouse.
