Q – When your solo album “Lloyd Cole” came out I was very impressed. Most of the songs in my opinion were classics. Well produced, written & performed. I think this is your finest album to date. Was this album hard to write, or had the songs been with you, waiting to surface.

A – A couple of the ideas had been around at the end of the Commotions – Mercy Killing for sure, but mostly I was just excited to be in NYC and it was inspiring. At least 10 of the songs were written in that first 6 month period. And it was all much easier than I expected. I didn’t really know what to expect, so I expected the worst, but I hadn’t realised how much I had learnt from being around great musicians like the Commotions, great string arrangers like Ann and Nicky, and so on. I even found that I could actually play guitar not too badly…
