Q – Do you think that professional golf is becoming dominated by big hitters? Do you think it would be bad for golf if it was dominated by those golfers who could hit the ball furthest off the tee?
A – I don’t think the problem is the players. It’s the equipment, especially the ball. Watching players hit driver, wedge every hole sends me to sleep. And when the course is set up to encourage this type of play it’s even worse. I almost never watch the PGA tour… But short hitters still win, most notably last years Masters, and some big hitters are very talented – Tiger, Daly, Norman, Nicklaus, Hogan – all these players were big in their day, and good… so it’s not so simple.
