Q – Is “Black Country Rock” a satire [or tribute] in any manner to Led Zeppelin? something about that tune/arrangement sounds zep-like to me, as well as well as the title? And what are your feelings about zep in general? Ive never heard you mention them in any way. Personally, i like zep but i dont really love them; im more interested in the yardbirds incl pagey in that era…

A – All I did on that recording (I was guest singer in Dave Derby’s fauxgroup – The Critics) was sing. So the vibe is all Dave and Jill (Sobule). But you should listen to Man who sold the world again… it ‘s a pretty heavy sounding album. Certainly the heaviest Bowie think pre Station to Station.

I was never a Zeppelin fan as a boy, but I do now appreciate a fair bit of their work, especially Kashmir and When the Levee breaks.
