Today was basically the same as yesterday except that as I was working in Logic and exporting files for Mark to work with on his Mackie system, he was importing the files and preparing individual project files fro each song.
His process is about 3 times as fast as mine.
3 songs were complete at the end of yesterday’s work. He gets these at around 10 AM and I get to work on the next one. It’s smooth – I know what I’m doing now – but slow – one false move and I need to start over. This happened on 2 of the 6 songs I completed today.
The details here are mundane – not worthy of inclusion here. All I can say is – I really wish someone else was doing this!
But there is no-one else.
It’s not just file management – there are tiny edits here that need doing and a bass sound there that needs fixing, a wobbly count in… It’s important stuff and if it isn’t done now, it may be missed later and that would make for a substandard record…
By 6 PM I realised I wouldn’t get the last song (Women’s Studies has tons of vocal and guitar overdubs and ideas) finished and M and I agreed to finish early. My brain is really a mess. Still, I did get the penultimate song (Period Piece) in shape after a mighty struggle with Logic freaking out and acting very unpredictably…
Tomorrow was supposed to be a day off but i will go in and deal with Women’s Studies, I’ll string two guitars and I’ll go to the Apple store to buy the Thunderbolt monitor. It will pay for itself in time saved before this record is done with. The Laptop screen is too small for working with 20+ tracks…
That was an 8 hour day that felt like 12.
