I should mention, I suppose, that these mixes are quite old school – there is computer automation of all tracks, but everything is running through the console (which used to belong to Fleetwood Mac to record their live shows…) and the console is not automated. So today I muted and unmuted the reverb return so that the verses were slapback only and the choruses were slap+reverb…
The song is sounding great and all of the work (finding that the song needed almost no overdubs) seems worthwhile. Olaf’s basic instinct for the mixes seems excellent so I’m staying out of his way for most of the day and only listening when called upon. This was the first song where we have Matthew’s block ‘Divine Intervention’ vocals and they are a lot of work to balance and place properly but they seem to be working perfectly.
