Q – I have a 6 disc changer in my car, all Lloyd all the time, just keep rotating discs in. When I listen to Ashtrays, the song Sold, I hear music that sounds like a Wings song. (Another Day, Band on the Run, Silly Love Songs) not sure which one, but one of those. Also, when I hear Somewhere out in the East, I can’t help but hear Up the Junction by Squeeze. Am I hearing things, have you heard that before? Do you like those songs, those bands, does other songs somehow enter one’s self conscious?

A – It’s quite easy to accidentally steal someone else’s ideas (see Speedboat). I don’t worry too much about it anymore, so long as you make the idea your own anything is fair game (see the Picasso and TS Eliot quotes). I’m pretty sure I was channeling Silly Loves Songs writing What’s Wrong With This Picture? (from The Negatives) and I’m glad I didn’t notice at the time, otherwise I might have aborted it and it is one of my favourites, now. Up The Junction is pretty much the only Squeeze song that I really like so maybe…
