Q – My question: why did you replace that great original “Forest Fire” lyric, “It’s just a simple metaphor, for a burning love,” with “It’s just a simple metaphor, like you read in books,” when you played that song live (at least the shows that I have seen/heard)?

I used to wonder if you were ashamed at the naked sentiment or something like that. The original lyric really completed the magic of the song – did you always replace it, or just sometimes?

A – I was bored. We toured too much. Not much of an excuse, I’m afraid, but that’s probably the long and the short of it. I sing the original these days. When I sing it, which is not every night any more. At least you didn’t get to hear “I’m just a simple matador”…
