LLOYD COLE
Antidepressant
(One Little Indian)

Lloyd Cole has been gracing us with his vocal presence for more than 20 years, but the odd thing about his voice is that it hasn’t changed a bit. The aging process for musicians isn’t usually very kind, but the effects of time are not evident on Antidepressants, the 17th album bearing Cole’s name and the fourth solo venture with indy label One Little Indian. Cole, 45, is articulate — his songs are like a running brook, not babbling. He’s melodic, smooth and mostly happy. Antidepressants is aptly named; it’s uplifting, yet the slow, relaxing pace leaves a calming effect. The title track sums it up perfectly: “With my medication, I’ll be fine.” It’s just what the doctor ordered.
