I drive/ride … a little silver Subaru.

If I have time to myself … I play golf. Apparently, Iggy Pop and Nick Cave play too, they just don’t admit to it.

You wouldn’t know it but I’m very good at … packing. Suitcases, car boots, anything.

You may not know it but I’m very bad at … typing. I actually stayed in practising instead of going down to the hotel bar last night!

A book that changed me … Harper Lee’s To Kill a Mockingbird, which I read in my late teens. It was the first book I really enjoyed reading.

Comfort eating … Mushroom risotto.

Movie heaven … Gosford Park. My wife and I are Robert Altman fans in general, but this was sublime, especially coming so late in his career.

My biggest regret … I regret that we LC & the Commotions didn’t enjoy our success more at the time, and also that I invested so much of my earnings back into my career when I should have taken the money and run.

When I was a child I wanted to be …

George Best. I liked his style, though I supported Chelsea, aged 11, because the United fans beat me up for wearing Marc Bolan-style trousers.

All my money goes on … eBay golf trading. I can’t stop collecting golf clubs.

I wish I’d never worn … a terrible Gaultier shirt with an eagle on the back as part of our awful cowboy chic obsession.

My favourite building … The UN building in New York: it’s like a big obelisk.

It’s not fashionable but I like … What, apart from golf!?

My favourite work of art … Picasso’s Les Demoiselles d’Avignon in the Prado.

The shop I can’t walk past … Muji – it costs less to buy new shirts from there than it does to dry clean your old ones.

The best invention ever … whisky.
