Nothing broken about Lloyd Cole’s latest
ALBUM REVIEW: LLOYD COLE: Broken Record (Tapete Records)
THIS is one of the strongest solo collections by the ex-leader of the Commotions.
Recorded in the US, where Cole has lived for a number of years, it boasts everything from the infectious, hook-laden pop of Writers Retreat! to the finely honed melancholia of The Flipside and If I Were A Song, the latter sounding like a homage to Leonard Cohen one of Cole’s musical heroes.
Backed by musicians who subtly follow Cole’s every vocal nuance, the album is strong from start to finish.
In fact, this is just the reverse of a Broken Record. 9/10. TK..
