I guess this place is a San Francisco institution, on Polk at California, just up the hill from the nasty Tenderloin I was staying in (for the last time). This place is old school personified – middle age guys in aprons somehow manage to make you feel you’re having an exotic experience, there is a sick genius at work there… Food is fine, I’m sure the Oysters are great but I can’t eat them for lunch day of show. Chowder (locals claim it is Campbell’s with a dash of Clam juice) did the job and mixed salad – shrimp, prawn, crab with lettuce and Louis dressing (1000 Island) was fine, not special, but fine. The room, on the other hand, is just perfect and my mood was much improved by the visit, and by the draught Stella.
