Q – I always wonder if the Mission Street you mention in the song “Down on Mission Street” it’s Mission Street of San Francisco, is it? By the way, I love this song. Thank you forever!
A – That came from the ashes of ‘Down At The Mission’ which was almost our debut single (thanks heavens it wasn’t). I’m fairly sure I didn’t know of the SF Mission Street when I wrote it, but I did know a fair bit about SF from the Tales of The City books by Armistead Maupin, I’d read all of them by this time, I think.
So the definitive answer is – I’m not sure. I do recall visiting the Street on our first visit and being rather disappointed, it is much livelier these days.
