In a (pleasant) surprise turnaround, John Zorn, NYC avant garde musician and boss of Tzadik records, yesterday decided that he would like the two songs I contributed to their ‘Great Jewish Composers’ series to be be included on the ‘Cleaning Out The Ashtrays’ box set. So the addition of Bacharach and David’s ‘I just don’t know what to do with myself’ (with Robert Quine) and Bolan’s ‘Romany Soup’ brings the track tally up to 56. And I believe that the collection can now be considered completely exhaustive.
