A couple more hours on the Coattails drums and it’s working pretty well. Then tidying up all the audio and midi, that takes a couple of hours too. Then rough mix.

Yesterday’s rebuild of the drums seems to have worked. The reconstructed Coattails is no longer popping and crackling.

All day updating BFD drums and Toontrack Superior to be sure the Coattails problem is not a bug which has been fixed. Both seem to function perfectly now.

Sounds like a joke, I’m sure. But when I went back to my Coattails file from April it would just crash, crash, crash. Back up files did the same.

Finish drum work on ILE, add snare drum introduction, fine tune fills. Add Spectrasonics Atmosphere pad sound to go with ride cymbal, sound swirls like a real cymbal, but moves around stereo field also.

I have just dusted off my old DrumKat midi drum controller (you can hit it with sticks) and last week I purchased a hardware upgrade. This arrived late last week. I put the new chip in today, dug out an old 3 tier keyboard stand and installed it on tier two above the small piano controller and below the minimoog.

Revisit ‘It’s Good To Be On Top’. Work on drum track. Run into DP bug (drum editor is seemingly randomly erasing hits while I edit other events) which seems to mean that this file is corrupted. Spend at least a half a day with tech support and forums, trying to rebuild the file so the problem will disappear.

Spend much of Monday cutting and pasting to try to figure out an arrangement for this track. End up with and A, B, C, B, C, D thing where A is the intro and D is the playout and the meat of the song is the B,C sections.
